Looking at what youre going to need to run SharePoint, its
nothing too scary. Youll need to install SharePoint on a Windows
2000 Server box, but you dont have to have implemented Active
Directory yet and SharePoint will work quite happily as part of
an NT domain. The product will work with either Exchange 2000 or
Exchange 5.5, but you dont need to have Exchange to benefit
from SharePoint. The hardware requirements arent too major
either, but you should budget for a fair amount of hard disk proportional
to the size of your network storage. Installation is easy, it only
takes half an hour or so but then obviously youll need to
plan first and spend lots of time configuring the portal once its
installed.
On the client PCs the requirements shouldnt present too many
problems, SharePoint is designed to work with what you already have
Windows 98, 2000 or NT, Office 2000 or XP, a reasonable spec
desktop and a browser is all you need.
